Teeth

Devin had two permanent upper molars extracted in preparation for getting braces. He amazed the dentist with his toughness.

Jam Session

Trent & Derrik have played their guitars the last couple of days that we've been together. Derrik appreciates the instruction and Trent has fun doing it. (They are next door in Darrell's garage, so as not to be too loud for those playing games in Farley & Margaret Ann's yard.)

Memorial Day Cookout

Farley & Margaret Ann had a cookout Memorial Day evening.

Rocky came along and wasn't looking any worse for wear from his dunking in the river earlier that day.
The boys greatly enjoyed their burgers, melon, chips, corn on the cob and soda. Thanks, Grandma & Grandpa!

River Trip

We floated the Rappahannock River on Memorial Day morning. We went with the West family.
Devin & Barry were companions in the green canoe. Derrik used his dad's yellow kayak.
Irving & Sandra each had their own kayak. Dwayne, Rocky & I had our red canoe. Not but a few minutes after this photo was taken, we capsized in some rapids. Dwayne's fishing pole & Rocky's leash were lost.
Barry & Devin had a few upsets on the last stretch of the river. One of them was what Devin referred to as "life threatening". Thankfully both boys were wearing their life jackets. Notice that their canoe is no longer shaped correctly.

Georgia Guests

Ted & Susan came up from Georgia with their boys for Uncle David's funeral. They stayed at our house. They were unable to make it up the previous week for Uncle Joe's funeral.

Devin's 14th Birthday Parties

Devin had some of the area teens over for pizza and ball games. They played basketball, football, soccer and lacrosse. They also jumped on the trampoline and listened to the Preakness Stakes.
All the kids piled into the bed of Derrik's truck for a group shot.
The family party was the following day. Devin requested cheeseburgers and homemade icecream.
Devin got gift certificates, books, candy, athletic shorts, a lacrosse stick and cash for his birthday. None of those items got quite as much attention as the pickle he got from some of his friends the day before.

Devin getting ready to enjoy his homemade strawberry icecream that Brandy helped me make.

Basement Carpet

The carpet is now installed. Hurray! There are still finishing touches to be done, but they will be slow in coming as Dwayne has started back to school at UVA in their Management of Information Technology master's program.

Mother's Day

We had a Thai food lunch with Rob & Tess (her first mother's day) and Mark & Colleen (her first without her mother).
We went to Rob & Tess' place for a brief visit after lunch. It was the first I ever held a chinchilla. They are amazingly soft. Rob is holding Winnie and I have Bianca. Watching their dust bath was very comical.

We met up with our family at this favorite German restaurant. It's about an hour and a half from home, so we certainly don't go there often.

Margaret Ann's Birthday (#62)

Margaret Ann wanted steamed spiced shrimp & crab legs. We ate on their carport and enjoyed the feast.
Margaret Ann received a number of special gifts. Brandy & Corbin gave her these stepping stone kits. They are each going to make her one for the flower beds. Derrik & Devin each got kits and made her one as well.

Grandma is surrounded by sweetness, a cake and her grandkids. Happy Birthday!!

20th Anniversary Trip

This is the Bavarian Inn in Shepherdstown, WV. It is a very quaint & romantic place alongside the Potomac River.
This is Dwayne and the view from the balcony of our room. A special thanks to Farley & Margaret Ann and Darrell & Kay for the room upgrade, too!
We rode our bikes on the C&O Canal Towpath alongside the river. We went from Shepherdstown to Harper's Ferry and back. It was 25 miles in total, which was overdoing it a bit considering we hadn't ridden in about a year. Thank goodness for the whirlpool bath.
We saw this owl when we were coming & going on the trail. We suspected it's mate was nesting somewhere near, but we didn't spot her.
A fellow guest took this photo of Dwayne & I on the Inn grounds as we were headed to dinner. They serve German food in the restaurants and it was VERY tasty.

Derrik's Truck

Auntie Frances gave Derrik Uncle Joe's pickup truck. It is twelve years old and has just a little over 17,000 miles on it. We're working on getting the title & tags. It has a few repairs that need to be made and requires a valid inspection. After that, he can start using it. (The kids in the bed of the truck are some friends.)
